Thing thirteen

I like the idea of tagging. I also like the idea of being able to use what other people find useful. I have tried to randomly look up web sites on particular subjects for my class. There are so many it is impossible to sort through. Sometimes I have had to read through to find they don't suit my needs. It would be great to have some recommendations.

I found several of the tags in flick to be misleading. I guess that could happen here as well-more sorting.

Thing twelve

This was fun. I can't see myself using this a whole lot. It takes a lot of time and I just can't sit in front of the computer that long. Is that one of those things like "If it's too loud, you're too old"?

I probably wouldn't be much involved in communities. I like my communication face to face or at least ear to ear (phone. I do worry about kids spending so much time "alone" in front of the computer. I see too many kids these days who seem to lack real communication skills. (Oh geeze another old admission)

Thing Eleven

It was very interesting reading the blogs of other participants. I have felt like I needed to hurry through all the things and haven't spent a lot of time just "doing" the things. I hope that all of these helps will still be available when the time is up.

I felt better finding that their a few people out there like me who are a little taken aback by all that is available. I hope they will take some comfort in the fact that they are not alone as well.

Having comments to my blog had both a positive and negative affect. The good thing is that someone actually is reading what I write. The bad was OMG!! people will actually read what I write.

I think connection to others is important because teachers have historically been closed in our rooms and can tend to be isolated. I find that even in my own building there isn't much time to share with others. This is one way to feel connected to people who are in the same boat who would be willing to share their life preserver.

This could be a great way for kids to share their writing. If they know that people will actually read what they write, they would have more incentive to express themselves in ways they might not with they come face to face with (oops ended in a preposition) The yenta in me also worries about that as well. Too many news stories, I guess.

Thing ten

Well, now I know why I'm having so much trouble teaching Math to my kids. I must be doing the old fashioned way.(too funny!)

I can see this will be great fun! This would be a great introduction for a Math lesson or to get kids to realize if they don't follow the algorithm, they will be in trouble.

Thing eight

Oh, this one was great fun! I can see lots of interesting applications for the classroom and for personal things. It was very time consuming, however.

Thing Nine

I had received utube movies in email forwards before, but had no idea there was so much to offer. I liked the teachertube. I even found some fun Math things on utube. I can see this would be a fun way to introduce my subjects.

I think utube is blocked in my building.

This will be a fun one on which to practice.

Thing seven

Wow that was fun and easy! I feel so technologically advanced.

I can see that this would be cool in the classroom. I could take my class on field trips we couldn't get to on a bus. It would be a lot of fun to add to blogs to make it more personal for kids.

Yep, gonna have to invest in a digital camera.

thing six

Well, I must say I found thing six way eaiser and much more fun than the others things so far. It was interesting looking at all the photos. I can imagine a lot of uses in the classroom.

I understand that I will be posting pictures of my own. I guess that means I'll have to buy a digital camera. You guys are really going to force me into the 21st century, aren't yous?

Oops. I forgot to put a picture from flickr on my blog. Let me try this.

Whew! it worked.

I chose this picture because I find old portraits intriguing. I love to make up identies and lives for the people.

Well, I have just finished doing thing 4. I was wondering how the heck to sort through what must be thousands of blogs in the world!

I am finding this all a daunting experience. I am not all that conversant with the computer and to sort through all the stuff and figure out what to do was exasperating.

I have learned tonight (like I didn't know if before) that there are a lot of people who have a lot to say that I just don't care about!

Can a woman be a curmudgeon?

Interesting adventure

I must say that I am overwhelmed by all that is available. I can see that I have been living in a cave as far a computer technology is concerned. Up to now I have been impressed that I can manage email. Guess it's time to get my old brain in gear.

First Timer

Having a pencil and paper brain makes this adventure a little scary, but a little adventuresome for someone who graduated college without ever touching a computer. Heck, they were still using slide rules when I was in high school. I never even had a hand-held calculator-noone did!

Oh well, man the decks, damn the torpedos! Full speed ahead!
